Pete PicAbout Me

I first obtained an amateur radio licence in October 2010, after attending a Foundation training course in Danbury, Essex. Station callsign at the time was M6PSI.

I obtained my Intermediate licence in June 2011, and I obtained my full licence in December 2011 with the callsign M0PSX. I mainly operate on the 2 metre band - if you're in the Essex area, I'm often found monitoring GB3DA, the Danbury repeater.

About Amateur Radio

For those unfamiliar with Amateur Radio, the licence allows me to talk to other licensed hams around the world on frequencies reserved for non-commercial communications and experimentation. The term "2 metre band" refers to the VHF band between 144MHz and 146MHz. My set-up allows me to use that band to "work" a sizable portion of Essex.

CARS LogoTo become an amateur radio operator, you need to complete a short training course, pass a multiple-choice test, and apply to OfCom for a licence and callsign. The team at the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society were great at helping me to learn what I needed to know, make my first 'CQ call', and pass my test.

I'd like to extend thanks to all of the team at CARS, plus a greeting to all of those on the course with me.
